4 Ways to Improve Your Memory in Later Years

Memory is a funny thing. It’s certain that many of us would love to delete certain memories, but the power of selective memory, simply does not exist!

Ultimately, the goal is to hold onto our memory function for as long as we can. Our long term memory serves to remind us of all the good times (the bad ones we can just push right to the back of the line!) and our short term memory recall allows us to function well on a daily basis… where would we be if we couldn’t recall where we placed our keys or kept forgetting things that we need to keep us safe, secure, and healthy?!

Inevitably, as we age, our memory recall and ability to learn will become impaired somewhat. This is why it is so important now to help preserve the fundamentals of your memory and learning.

Here are 4 Ways to Improve Your Memory in Later Years

  • Focus on brain foods! Yes, some foods are really beneficial for your brain function and these include: walnuts, omega 3 fatty acids such as those found in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and tuna, blueberries, turmeric, broccoli, dark chocolate, green leafy veg, and tea and coffee also have their share of benefits too! If you look at this list and can’t say for certain these foods are included in your current nutrition, then begin by adding more into your diet. These foods are all good for your brain for different reasons; they are well worth a tweak to your eating habits to include some of them!

  • Memory games. The brain works like a muscle, the more you challenge it, the stronger it becomes. Challenge yourself with memory recall games, try out a new hobby that gets your brain working differently- this helps to enhance cognitive function, and don’t stop learning new things. You are never too old to take up a new pastime that makes you feel happy and stimulates your brain function at the same time. Add to this, things that make you feel good to help to lift you and bring your mind into a happier, calmer state. Stress can cause ill health overall but especially impact your memory and brain function.

  • Following on from the above. Stress is largely unavoidable to some degree; however, we can focus on managing levels of stress so they do not severely impact our brain health. Stress is a major cause of inflammation within the body. Minimizing levels of stress needs to be strategic, it may mean including healthy coping mechanisms to deal with times of increased stress, such as exercise, talking with a friend or family member, having a relaxing bath or massage, or going to a yoga or meditation class. Some people find keeping a journal can help cope with stress also. Sometimes it’s a case of trying a few different things to decipher what works best for you.

  • Vitamins and minerals. Vitamins and minerals protect and preserve your cell function. It can be highly beneficial to supplement key nutrients such as B vitamins, the B vitamins can play a role in developing new brain cells; they can help to break down homocysteine, which in excess can be linked to degenerative brain disorders such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, Ginkgo Biloba is a natural plant remedy that can help to improve memory focus, and Vitamin E helps to protect the body’s cells from damage. There are many other vitamins and minerals that provide benefits for brain health, your health practitioner can advise on what is best for you.

Holding onto your memory helps you to hold back the years. If we can keep our mental state sharp and focused, we can be more productive and independent- especially as we age.

BuckyLabs have a host of products and supplements that serve to look after you in later years. They have developed products that can assist in our mental function, overall anti-aging strategies, better health, and longevity.

BuckyLabs.com believes in youth “from the inside out” and they only offer products that have been proven to increase health-span in peer-reviewed studies.

Here are two products from their supplement range.

Spermidine

Spermidine has been shown to reduce the risks of some forms of cancer, preserve telomere length and, if taken regularly enough over a long period of time, can expand lifespan.

It also maintains autophagy in T cells and may improve vaccine protection in older adults. Research shows that spermidine inhibits five of the nine hallmarks of aging.

Spermidine plays a key role in maintaining cells’ membrane potential and controlling intracellular pH and volume.

Studies also suggest it can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and improve cognition. Spermidine has a neuroprotective effect against neuron damage caused by inflammation and ischemia and oxidative stress.

60 capsules 10 mg/serving high purity (98%) Spermidine Trihydrochloride.

Centrophenoxine

Centrophenoxine has properties similar to acetylcholine- a neurotransmitter that is important for memory and learning. As such, this supplement may provide benefits for memory boost and learning.

is also known as Meclofenoxate (or Lucidril). It is an ester of dimethylethanolamine (DMAE) and 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (pCPA). DMAE is a natural substance, found especially in fish. pCPA is a synthetic compound that resembles a variety of plant hormones called “auxins”.

Here are some reports on Centrophenoxine:

  • Experimental Gerontology (Vol8 Issue4): “Dimethylaminoethyl p-chlorophenoxyacetateincreased the median, mean and maximum survival time from the start of drug administration of male Swiss Webster Albino mice by 29.5 percent, 27.3 percent (P = 0.039) and 39.7 percent respectively.”

  • Also of interest is a report from Dr. Nagy who has been taking Centrophenoxine for over 35 years.

Studies have shown that it can reduce lipofuscin in neuronal cells.

Lipofuscin is an ageing pigment that is composed of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Its content increases with age.

  • Lipofuscin is the name given to an accumulation of fine yellow-brown pigment granules. These are composed of lipid-containing residues of lysosomal digestion.

  • It is considered to be one of the agingpigments.

  • Lipofuscin is commonly found in the liver, kidney, heart muscle, retina, adrenals, nerve cells, and ganglion cells.

Centrophenoxine will begin to degrade if not kept cool so store in the refrigerator. Here is the
