The Keto Diet and Intermittent Fasting

Are you looking to lose weight but are uncertain of what diet would work best? Don’t panic because there is no one size fits all solution. We all have unique bodies and each requires a unique approach! There are some tools and techniques you can use, but it's a matter of experimentation, to see what works best for you.

Benefits and Struggles of Keto

For some of us, we can consume the proper diet and lose weight easily.  For others, the process of teaching our body to burn calories and fat requires a little more structure and focus.

The Keto (low-carb, high-fat) diet has many advantages. For those of you who are struggling to lose weight and gain your energy back, it can be a great option. After several months on the diet, many people lose significant weight, notice more energy and brain clarity, have fewer issues with blood sugar, and experience diminishing anxiety or depression. However, this is not the case for everyone.  Some people’s bodies struggle to become fat-adapted (burning fat rather than carbs) and struggle to lose weight while on Keto.  Other people lose weight initially and then experience weight loss stall and stop losing weight.

If you have tried the keto diet, but have found that your weight loss results are minimal or aren’t continuing, you may want to consider adding Intermittent Fasting to your weight loss kit bag.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent Fasting isn’t much different than what you do already.  You eat during the day and sleep during the night (hopefully J). When your body is operating without any caloric intake, you are fasting! It’s as simple as that!  As you fast (don’t eat) for more than 8 hours, your body goes into a mode called “Autophagy”, during which natural cellular repair and clean-up processes occur throughout your body. Intermittent Fasting is one of the major health trends right now due to the many benefits it provides. It has been shown to support immune system function, insulin resistance, bad cholesterol reduction, brain health, as well as preventing aging. It's also helpful for weight loss as, during autophagy, your natural levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) increase, which supports muscle growth and fat loss.

Let’s take a look at some of the most well-known methods:

  • OMAD – eat only one meal a day, though the “meal” can occur over a few hours and include substantial caloric intake.

  • The 16/8 Method – requires you to skip breakfast and restrict your eating to an 8-hour time period. After which, you fast for the next 16 hours.

  • The Eat-Stop-Eat Strategy– involves fasting for a 24-hour period once or twice a week.

  • The 5:2 Diet – you eat a total of (approximately) 500 to 600 calories on two nonconsecutive days of the week. For the rest of the 5 days, you eat normally.

Combining Intermittent Fasting with Keto

When making substantial changes to your diet, it’s important to give your body time to adapt.  If you are on Keto and want to try Intermittent Fasting you should start slowly and listen carefully to your body throughout the experimentation process. The effects of combining the Keto diet with Intermittent Fasting will be different for each person. However, it is expected that fasting will help you to reach ketosis more quickly, reach deeper levels of ketosis and stay in ketosis longer. Along with all the health benefits of keto, the autophagy (cellular repair) processes that occur through intermittent fasting can help you to feel great in the process.

Keto & Intermittent Fasting Support

Adding Intermittent fasting to a keto way of eating can be great, but you should wait until your body has adjusted to ketosis and you have your system balanced.  Once you are in ketosis, with no keto flu symptoms, you may be ready to try adding some intermittent fasting practices.  The trick is to start with shorter periods of caloric restriction, maybe 10-12 hours.  Over time you can stretch your fasting periods to strengthen autophagy processes in your body. It is important to remember that both Keto and Intermittent Fasting are serious dietary protocols that have intense effects on your metabolism. Any modifications in your routine should be gradual, leaving your body time to adjust.  In addition, If you require a specialized diet due to specific health issues, like autoimmune, diabetes, or a heart condition, make sure to consult a physician for clearance before moving forward.

Support for Keto & Intermittent Fasting Support

Both Keto and Intermittent Fasting work best when you provide your body with the proper electrolyte and micronutrient supplementation.  During the first couple of weeks of Keto, as the body transitions to metabolizing fats, people often experience drops in energy levels, fatigue, muscle soreness, indigestion, headaches, intense food cravings, changes in digestion, or altered sleep patterns. With Intermittent fasting, it is important to provide non-caloric cellular support during autophagy processes.  Doing so will minimize cravings or hunger pangs during the fasting periods.

Support Keto & Intermittent Fasting with Electrolytes & Micronutrients

Your body is made of cells - approximately 37 trillion cells – and everyone requires electrolytes and minerals! While most people know about the primary four electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, and Calcium), most people aren’t aware that the human body requires a full spectrum of electrolytes and minerals to ensure cellular function. To sustain ketosis in a healthy way, your body needs more electrolytes and minerals than a person who is not eating keto.  Add Intermittent fasting to your protocol and you are looking at a serious need to supplement!  Otherwise, you are risking your cellular health.

Because our food supply is depleted of minerals, most people are mineral deficient even before starting Keto or intermittent fasting. So, if you are thinking of trying Keto or are adding Intermittent Fasting to your health protocol, it’s important to be able to recognize the signs of electrolyte and mineral deficiency.  These signs should not be disregarded as they are sure signs that your body is lacking the proper nutrients.

Plant-Based Supplementation

The great thing is that there is an easy way to replenish the full spectrum of electrolytes and minerals you need to support a healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting lifestyle. Keto-BEAM has a variety of products geared towards helping people to maintain the proper levels of electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals.

Keto-BEAM Supplements

Their products, Electrolyze™and Micro-BOOST™, are composed of two plant-based mineral complexes known as Humic and Fulvic. Both components contain a full spectrum of electrolytes and minerals that ensure a successful Keto diet and provide exceptional support for intermittent fasting.

Electrolyze™

  • Replaces the electrolytes lost during ketosis

  • Boosts the body’s internal energy

  • Supports nutrients uptake in the body

  • Reduces sugar cravings

  • Replace the alternative powdered electrolytes and salts

  • Provides a full spectrum of minerals and micronutrients

Keto-BEAM’s, Electrolyze™, is composed of fulvic complexes, which increase the body’s energy by transporting nutrients directly into the cell. Electrolyze is key to eliminating the cravings that happen during ketosis and providing important non-caloric cellular support during fasting periods.

is primarily composed of humic complexes, which include 70+ trace minerals, micronutrients, amino acids, and B-Vitamins. Humic complexes are powerful detoxification agents, which eliminate the symptoms associated with the “keto-flu” and support cellular repair processes during fasting.  Using their molecular structure and strong electrical charge, humic complexes can reduce free radicals, bind with bio-waste and toxins, and chelate with heavy metals, ultimately eliminating them completely from the body. This cellular waste removal is important during weight loss cycles because environmental toxins are stored in fats, so metabolizing fats releases those toxins into your bloodstream.

Overall, using Keto-BEAM’s Electrolyze and Micro-BOOST will provide support as you start and then maintain ketosis and intermittent fasting cycles. Keto-BEAM’s customers report that they sail through the keto transition period and maintain high energy and vitality, with no keto flu symptoms, while employing intermittent fasting with their keto diet.

Combine Keto & Intermittent Fasting Safely!

Should you choose to pair intermittent fasting with the keto diet, be aware of the possible side effects of making abrupt changes to your body. When it comes to making these lifestyle modifications, it is always best to alter one thing at a time. People who have been on the Keto diet for some time will be in a better position to experiment with fasting.  However, no matter what stage you are at in the process, it is vital to supplement your cellular with electrolytes and minerals. Keto-BEAM products, Electrolyze™ and Micro-BOOST™ provide that support in a 100% bioavailable liquid format . . . and best of all, they taste like water!
