Prepare your skin for winter
At this time of year, the cold and humidity can make your skin irritated and red. According to Cleveland Clinic dermatologist, the weather has a direct effect on your skin. In the cold wintertime, the air dries out and so does your skin. Autumn is the time to makes some changes to your daily beauty routine and prepares the skin before cold, harsh winter conditions.
8 tips for keeping your skin in good shape
1. Start moisturizing now, to minimize your risk when winter sets in. ”Use organic moisturizer. Your skin does not need chemicals to look better. Read the ingredients. Only use products with simple ingredients and delete the chemicals. A really great moisturizer only needs a few ingredients like organic oils that specifically heal and moisturize skin, water (or organic aloe, which is even better), an emulsifier to blend them, a thickener to give it a creamy consistency and if it’s prepared correctly, it does not even need a chemical preservative. It’s that simple. That’s how I make mine “ said Christina Moss Founder, Christina Moss Naturals.
2. Moisturize more. Moisturize at least once a day, as soon as you’re done showering. Also, wash your face once a week with Greek yogurt. It sounds weird, but the lactic acid works as a very gentle, non-abrasive exfoliator.
3. The drier your skin, the thicker the moisturizer you should use. Especially during the winter, avoid any face products with chemicals and alcohol, and switch to a milder face wash and a thicker moisturizer.
4. Look for products containing organic oils or organic aloe, ingredients that help replace the skin’s natural oils.
5. Run the shower water warm, not hot. A 15 minute long, hot shower might feel great on a cold day but stick to warm water for maximum 5 minutes or less. Long exposure to hot water can strip moisture from skin and hair.
6. Drink lots. Well-hydrated skin starts from within, which means taking in enough liquid for our needs. Water, tea, or fresh fruit juice help our skin renew itself, maintain elasticity and stay young looking.
7. Go for hydrating masks. To bring back radiance and softness to the face, go for soothing hydrating masks. An ideal time to do this is before you go to bed. Let the mask do its magic for 10 to 15 minutes, then simply remove the excess without rinsing. For a moisturizing face mask, take a look in your kitchen: bananas, egg yolk, avocados and milk can all make great moisturizing face treatment.
8. Prevent chapped lips. The wind, cold, and humidity tend to make our lips dry. To prevent them from cracking or bleeding, apply a lip balm before putting on lipstick.
