Easy Tips for Better Cavity Protection

Do you ever wonder why some people continue to get cavities despite meticulous oral hygiene, whereas others who rarely brush and floss do not? Can a person be cavity-prone? Read on to find out more!

Cavities are caused by a bacterial imbalance in your mouth, and when the dentists drill and fill cavities, they are only treating the result of the infection and not the imbalance itself. This means that the decay returns.

For many, it’s a frustrating, reactive approach to oral health, but not surprising. Until recently, dentists were taught that if you remove bacteria with good oral hygiene, you’ll be free of decay. The problem is that it’s just not that simple! So, here are some tips to help guide you to better cavity protection!

  1. Make dental visits a priority. Ensure you schedule a visit to your dentist at least every six months, enabling your dentist to spot the early signs of decay and act swiftly to deal with the issue.

  2. Use good-quality fluoride toothpaste at least twice daily to brush your teeth. It’s important to note that some toothpaste can be quite abrasive, and over-brushing or brushing too hard can create more dental issues down the line. Aim to brush for at least 2 minutes and use circular motions to clean your teeth. Dental floss comes in very handy for getting in between your teeth where food debris can hide.

  3. Alongside quality toothpaste, invest in an effective mouth rinse. Rinsing at least twice a day along with brushing helps to keep your teeth clean, your mouth fresh and avoid an oral build-up of residue caused by food and drink.

  4. Eat more tooth foods! Some foods are just really good for your oral hygiene as well as your body. Here are a few: strawberries, apples, calcium-rich foods, dark, leafy greens, and fiber-rich fruit and vegetables.

  5. Xylitol is often found in chewing gum as well as toothpaste and rinse. It can help to prevent a build-up of plaque and bacteria. Some studies have shown that xylitol “can help reduce tooth decay and even help reverse the decay itself by helping to replace the minerals in tooth enamel” (dental health organization).

The oral health habits many of us learned from a young age can lead to a range of dental concerns. That’s why it’s important to understand how to take care of your mouth in a smarter, simpler way. While brushing and flossing can reduce bacteria, neither alters the current acidic bacterial balance in your mouth.

However, CariFree pH elevated products change the chemical balance of your mouth and are scientifically proven to prevent cavities. Caries is another term for tooth decay and dental cavities, hence the brand name “CariFree”!
