Sage Lifestyle’s Story: From Jewelry to Perfume Oils
The founder of Sage Machado started her journey into artistry three decades back through designing artisanal Jewelry Collections. Born to hippie parents with a strong feeling for nature, Sage developed an appreciation for gemstones from a young age. She was an naturally gifted woman for she had traveled the world in search of inspiration, and on her return she brought back with her an idea to design world pieces that reflected the beauty of the earth as it is. This led to her first jewelry collection which did not take long to pick up pace and she even snagged an account with Barney’s New York.
By 1998, Sage opened her first boutique in Los Angeles where she offered her jewelry line complimented by other eclectic finds from around the world. But she didn’t only do this. Apart from jewelry, she combined inspiration from gemstones into fragrances.
Therefore, reborn was Sage Lifestyle’s state-of-the-art Gemstone Perfumery. In an industry often dominated by mass-produced scents, Sage’s approach to perfumery was unique: she created each scent individually and with great attention to the detail, so every perfume oil gives the scent of the stones it was named after.
The First Steps of Gems-Floral Perfumeries
The product line of perfume oils is as unique as the jewelry it is named after; as each variety of the perfume oil has a name of a precious stone. The production of these fragrances was thus not far from this artistic direction. First, there were only five basic fragrances — Amber, Amethyst, Citrine, Topaz, and Jade, and Sage lovingly constructed all of them step by step from single notes. Her task was to define gemstones, to turn the beauty of those stones into a fragrance that remains on the skin, long after it has been applied.
