Now, let’s talk about the discomfort. The kind of pain that I am experiencing is not the kind that says, “I had a long day,” but rather the kind that says, “I am so tired that I could cry, yet my brain is currently reviewing every social interaction I’ve had since 2005.”

You are familiar with the sensation. The time is 3:14 in the morning. While your body is experiencing the sensation of lead, your mind is attempting to complete a marathon on a treadmill that is on fire. Your heart is beating wildly for no apparent cause. Because you have your jaw so tightly gripped, you are concerned that you will wake up with powder on your teeth. It is a unique form of hell that is referred to as the “Tired and Wired” phenomenon.

It’s the frustration of being “on” even when you’re supposed to be “off.” The anger that causes you to snap at the person you love over the fact that they breathed too loudly is the cause of this. A straightforward grocery list can feel like you’re trying to solve a quadratic equation when you’re experiencing brain fog. What you are experiencing is your nervous system being trapped in a never-ending “Fight or Flight” loop. Is that the truth? It’s a draining burden.
