The Visionary Behind Charles & Company Tea
Lawrence Charles, the heart and soul behind Charles & Company, has an inspiring story that adds a rich narrative to every blend we offer. Lawrence’s journey with tea started in New York City. Now, you must be thinking that NYC is the last place where classic English tea would be a thing, but this is where our story began. There, he worked as a model and spokesperson for Tommy Hilfiger. Amidst the city’s chaos, he found solace in the quiet moments spent sipping delicately steeped Japanese Sencha in quaint teashops from Greenwich Village to the edge of Harlem. His love for tea and the calmness it washed over him led him towards starting his Company.
Lawrence’s early life in the inner city of Canton, Ohio, was marked by perseverance and ambition. Raised by a single mother under challenging circumstances, he learned the value of hard work and imagination from a young age. By his teenage years, Lawrence had already established a barber shop and was promoting for a hair clipper company by 19. His relentless drive saw him through design school, where his talent led to a role as head designer for a startup television video series, earning three Telly Awards.
