By nine o’clock the herb stall was already busy. She was asking how to brew mullein. Another customer was rubbing rosemary between their fingers before deciding whether to buy it. Nobody seemed to be in a hurry.
Long before wellness became an industry, herbs were simply part of everyday life. They flavored meals, steeped in teapots, soothed tired skin, and marked the changing seasons. Herbs found their way into soups, tea tins, kitchen windowsills, and family remedies. They stayed because people kept reaching for them.
People rarely wake up deciding to become interested in herbalism. More often, it starts with borrowing a tea from a friend, asking about a plant at a market, or wondering why one herb smells different from another.
Iones Apothecary® is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and is a small-batch herbal company with nearly three decades of plant studies, experience growing medicinal herbs, and experience handcrafting botanical products behind it. What originally began as a way to share their creations with friends and family quickly grew into a business focused on making herbalism feel welcoming, educational, and accessible to anyone who is genuinely curious about the natural world.
They have recently been recognized as part of the New Mexico certification program. Their work remains rooted in the plants and landscapes of Northern New Mexico.

It All Starts with a Little Curiosity
Wellness today often comes with long ingredient lists and even longer routines. More and more, people are choosing habits that fit naturally into everyday life instead of adding another task to the list.
Shopping habits have changed. People still read ingredient labels, but they’re also asking simpler questions: Will I actually use this? Does it fit into my day? A tea that gets brewed every evening or a facial oil that’s used before bed often becomes more valuable than a complicated routine that’s abandoned after a week.
In many ways, it reflects what herbalism has always been about. Taking the time to learn about specific plants, preparing a warm cup of tea, or setting aside some time for your skincare routine can become an opportunity to enjoy without rushing, reconnect, and be present in the current moment.
It’s a familiar scene at local markets. Someone pauses in front of a table covered with jars of herbs, admits they don’t know much about medicinal plants, and leaves after a conversation that’s longer than they expected. A few weeks later, they’re pointing out native plants on neighborhood walks or growing herbs in pots outside the back door. Curiosity, more than anything else, has a way of taking root.
The company’s story began with one person growing medicinal herbs in a Santa Fe garden long before there was a business to sell them. The founder spent almost 30 years educating themselves on traditional herbalism with teachers along the West Coast while also growing medicinal plants in their own garden and greenhouse in Santa Fe. Every product the company creates is handcrafted in small batches, with botanicals that have been sustainably harvested from the forests of Northern New Mexico, such as locally sourced piñon sap, juniper, and piñon branches.
Their long-term goals include online and in-person herbal education, community workshops, and hands-on experiences where people are able to come together, learn, and build confidence working with botanicals. This is one way they continue a tradition that has been shared through families, communities, and generations.
Learning a Plant Before Buying It
One of the easiest ways to make herbal wellness feel less overwhelming is to become familiar with one plant at a time. Instead of filling a cupboard with products all at once, many experienced herbalists recommend choosing a single herb that naturally fits your daily routine and paying attention to it for a few weeks.
Notice its aroma before you brew it. Read about the role it has played in different cultures and traditions. Over time, that one herb becomes recognizable rather than mysterious, and the next one is a little easier to understand.

A Cup Worth Noticing
Nobody rushes a kettle. While the water heats, people wipe the counter, stare out the window, or remember the thing they forgot to do five minutes earlier. That simple ritual has introduced generations of people to herbs without asking them to change much else.
Scratchy Throat Tea™ reflects that same philosophy. It’s blended as much for flavor as for the experience of making tea itself.
Its blend brings together familiar botanicals including marshmallow leaf, mullein, orange peel, sage, and peppermint to create an earthy aroma with a clean finish that doesn’t overpower the palate.
Peppermint is usually the first thing people recognize. Sage often surprises them because it smells softer once hot water hits the leaves.
Every batch is blended by hand. Small differences from one batch to the next are part of the process rather than something the company tries to eliminate.

Finding Comfort in the Little Things
Not every ritual begins with a cup of tea. Some begin at the bathroom sink, with a few quiet minutes set aside for skincare.
That approach extends naturally to the Calendula Facial Oil™, which blends calendula, green tea sencha, marshmallow root, and ylang ylang essential oil into a formula designed to feel both nourishing and calming during daily skincare rituals.
The base is made from nourishing plant oils that leave lasting moisture without feeling heavy. It slips easily across the skin, making facial massage feel less like another skincare step and more like a quiet pause before the day begins.
Handcrafted in small batches, the Calendula Facial Oil™ has become a customer favorite, reflecting the belief that everyday skincare can be both effective and deeply enjoyable. Sometimes, the most meaningful wellness rituals begin with something as uncomplicated as taking a minute to care for your skin with intention.

Whether you’re looking to enjoy a cup of tea or take a few minutes to yourself to indulge in some much-needed self-care, Iones Apothecary® is helping you create simple habits that make it easier to pause for five quiet minutes before the day gets busy. This is where handcrafted products are paired with a passion for education, community, and a deeper appreciation and love for plants.
Months later, she still couldn’t name every herb she’d seen that morning. She didn’t need to. She’d started keeping a small pot of mint outside the kitchen door, and that seemed like enough of a beginning.
